Hello everyone,
My name is Linda Chafin. I have been
intrested in my family
history since I was a little girl. I was taught at
very young age the value
and importance of a strong family heritage. My
Great Grandparents
came to America via Ellis Island. My Grandfather
was
Archie McCrorie born July 14, 1908. He was the
fifth of eleven
children born to John McCrorie and Barbara Stirling.
They
were brought to this country by their parents and
settled in the coal mining town
of Birmingham, Alabama. They lived in a town called
Wylam
which is on the outskirts of Birmingham. There
they raised their family.
below is a list of their children:
Father born February 21, 1874 died March 17, 1947
Mother born October 16, 1879 died March 3, 1945
Christena born September 15, 1898 died March 21, 1969
Henry born February 7, 1901 died July 29, 1965
John born March 27, 1903 died January 27, 1974
James born March 24, 1906 died .......
Archie born July 14, 1908 died January 17, 1994
Barbara born July 19, 1911 died .......
Jennie born September 19, 1913 died September 19,
1914
David born May 18, 1915 died Febuary 26, 1969
Isabell born Febuary 3, 1918
Margaret born March 27, 1920 died November 21, 1936
Mary born August 13, 1922 died November 1, 1925

My Grandfather's father, John McCrorie
was born on
Saturday, Febuary 21, 1874 in Common Row , Cumnock
Ayrshire, Scotland. His Father's name was Henry
McCrorie.
His mother's name was Margaret Liston.
My Grandfather's mother, Barbara
Stirling was born on
Thursday, October 16, 1879 in Ladies Row Morningside
near
New Mains, Lanerkshire, Scotland. Her father was John
Stirling. Her mother was Christena Robb.
John and Barbara were married on
Cristmas the 25 day
of December 1897 in Wylam, Alabama. Witness' were
Pastor
Rev. W. E. Morris, Henry McCrorie and Mary
Browley at the Wylam Methodist Church.

In this day and age technology has made it so much
easier to do
what our parents and grandparents were unable to do.
My wish is
to trace my family as far back as possible. If
there is any resource
available I could use, or anyone that could help in
my quest it
would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for
your time,

Linda Chafin
