Hi John,
The first thing I would suggest is that you get the death
certificate for Alexander Jnr. Was he alive or listed as deceased in the
death certificate for Annie in 1966?
You can either use a genealogist to search for you, I can recommend a
couple to you if you wish or if you intent to visit here you can view
the records yourself at New Register House in Edinburgh or you can view
the online indexes at New Register House http://www.origins.net/GRO/
[but not for events in the past 100 yrs] this costs £6 for 30 searches
and you have to buy the certificate if you find an event or you can use
a researcher to transcribe the data on any certificates you want.
Once you have a death you will then need to find the marriage
certificate for them and this in turn will let you know when to search
for children of theirs and let you know the names of the parents and to
look for their marriage certificate etc etc.
Don't forget to look at the census records, taken every 10 yrs and the
ones from 1841-91 are of most use to researchers, better to do this once
you have a firm location from a death or marriage certificate and once
you have a firm location check to see if there are any published MIs
[headstones] for that area.
Happy Hunting
regards
Alex
