Happy New Year to one and all from Alberta, Canada! No glitches here and glad to see all the rest are fine also. Its been awhile since I posted on the list. I just felt I should post and the share the following...months ago I signed on to this list with hopes of finding info on my family. So many were helpful but none of the info recieved was anything I could use. The connections weren't there. Thankfully, Alex Hughes, who was also in need of some lookups at the LDS, was eagerly willing to do some lookups for me in his neck of the woods.
I just have to say that some of the info he had managed to find for me may just work out to be what I was looking for, and just when I was ready to throw my hands up in the air and quit. Frustrated was the word! Over the last few months I have been keeping in touch with Alex off the list. I have been able to order 3 films for him and have sent him pages of info on Hughes that I managed to find on microfiche. He has done some most wonderful things for me in return and I am presently awaiting a package in the mail.
Without going into much further detail and boring everyone, I guess what I am trying to say is how thankful I am for lists like this and the wonderful people who are so quick to help another. I have always been an active volunteer in my own community and was so thrilled to become part of this also and try help out whoever I could. It really is a small world, its a wonderful world, and I think we can all be very thankful for what technology and people all around the world can do with their computers and with their hearts. I do not hold any great expectations in what Alex has sent me, if it pans out, great and if not, well I thank him for all his help and will continue to push on. I would not have got this far without his willingness to help and his wonderful spirit, and that in itself has made it all worth while.
I have communicated with many a wonderful people over this last 9 months and I look forward to much more to come. Lets take whatever we've learned or accomplished in 1999 and carry it into 2000, and always be thankful for lists like this and how they can enrich our lives. As more pieces of my family puzzle come together, I somehow am beginning to feel more complete and hope that I can leave all this info to my children, so that they know where they came from and can be proud of not only who they are but grateful for all the family that preceded them, in hard times and in good.
So my wish to everyone is to have a healthy, happy, properous year and continued success in finding their roots. It is, I've discovered a very important thing to many. So Happy New Year everyone, and Alex, from the bottom of my heart I thank you for all you've done for me and for always taking the time to write. Best of luck everyone in your endeavors, I believe that somewhere, somehow, the right connection will come for us all.
P.S. I also would like to extend to others, if you don't have an LDS center close by, I would gladly help, I try to get to the one here as often as possible and would not mind doing some lookups for those who need. Thank you all for your patience in this lengthy letter. Elaine in Alberta, Canada
