Hi Myra

I used to live just over the wall from the grounds of Netherplace & did my
early courting in the woods.

Netherplace House was built in 1620 & in Burns' day a main road passed its
front. In the 19th century the CAMPBELLs of netherplace were followed by the
HAMILTON-CAMPBELLS and an imposing new frontage was added. During the
Crimean war the house was leased and when a son of the tenant won a V.C. at
Sebastopol there was a firework display. Netherplace House was demolished
around 1956.
