Hi Chris
Largs does have a small Family History Group. First meeting of the next
session will be on the 14 September in the Library 7.30. Speaker will be Dr
Christopher Lee from Paisley Museum. Topic 'The Cairn of Lochwinnoch'. If
you are around at the time you will be most welcome to attend.
The society has it's own little corner in the Library available to members
only, perhaps for a small donation they will let you access it. Material
includes the IGI's and OPR indexes on fiche. Ardrossan Poor relief indexes
also on fiche. 1851 census indexes for some parishes in Lanarkshire, 1851
Census index for Renfrewshire. 1881 Census Index on fiche for Lanarkshire,
Renfrewshire and Ayrshire.1891 census index for all of Scotland. Also MI's
for Largs.etc..(Although I believe one section of the Haylie Brae cemetry
was ommitted) The museum on the Main Street may also have information that
would be of use to you, entry to the old graveyard is obtained by getting
the key from the museum.
Ardrossan Library about a 15/20 minutes away, will give you access to all
the census and OPR's MI's for North Ayrshire, Valuation Rolls etc..If
intending to visit them you would be best to make a booking in advance.
Regards
Mary S
