Greetings All,
For those who are newer at searching for their roots, you
often do not know how far the various towns/parishes are
from each other. I know I was amazed at how many communities
were within 10 miles of Kilmarnock.
An excellent site is found in GENUKI. I do not remember the
steps from the Home Page of Genuki, but the URL
<www.genuki.org.uk/big/parloc/search.html> will take you to
a page where you fill in the town/parish you are interested
in. This then takes you to a page where you fill in the
radius, in miles, (i.e. 10 miles). This will give you a list
of all town/parishes in that area, the exact distance from
your site of interest (In this case Kilmarnock), the county
in which it is located, and sometimes other information.
I have found it a great help when necessary to widen you
search.
