Hi Rodney

Kilmarnock and Galston are only five or six miles apart but Paton is quite a
common surname around here. I think my Jane Paton would have been born in
the mid to late 1820's or early 1830's, she was married in 1852, had two
children in 1853 and 1854. Her husband William Gemmell was born in 1822.

I normally reply to letters directly rather than through the list. I have
received a number of letters, both directly and through the list, regarding
this thread. Although I'm not connected to any of the respondents so far,
had I not replied to Margaret's letter through the list, I would not have
received these letters. I will in future be replying through the list as it
definitely generates responses.

My thanks again to everyone who wrote.

Cheers,

John
