Hello Bette,

I was interested in your message as my great grandfather was a James McMillan
JOHNSTON(E) c.18 Aug 1859 in Old Cumnock.In 1882 he married Penuel Baillie
ROSS in Old Cumnock and their first born son was named Adam Mackie JOHNSTON(E)
b.1882.

I find this a bit odd as neither James nor Penuel had a father called Adam and
as far as I could see no MACKIE connection either. However,Penuel did have a
brother Adam b.1877.

James's parents were John JOHNSTON and Jane Mitchell MCMILLAN both also born
in Old Cumnock. The children of this couple (married 9 Jan 1857) were Margaret
Crichton JOHNSTON b.29 Jul 1857, James-as already mentioned-and Robert
McMillan JOHNSTON b.20 Oct 1864.I have yet to find any other children they may
have had.

The parents of John JOHNSTON were John Johnston(deceased at the time of John
and Jane's marriage)and Euphemia JOHNSTON but I do not know where or when they
were born nor do I know who their children were.I wonder if there is any link
with your JOHNSTONE family?

Regards,Penuel
