On one of my Scottish mailing lists awhile back, someone was asking
about finding Jewish births, since Presbyterian baptisms wouldn't be
applicable. Since I can't remember which list, you all get this
message. I was working through a parish film on the LDS site and came
across Isabella Ayndoman Stein Walker. Doesn't that sound like a Jewish
middle name? Wasn't the Church of Scotland THE place to register
births before 1855? Would a Jewish Scot pay his penny to make sure he
had a record of his daughter's birth? I think he might, given the sad
history of statelessness of the diaspora. I look forward to Scottish
historians enlightening me - and others.
