Dear Keith,
I know High Corton well, my Murdoch ancestors were tenants there for several
generations. The farm still exists in Alloway parish on the south east edge
of Ayr and next to Dalrymple parish. Over the road from High Corton is Mount
Oliphant farm which was the first farm tenanted by William Burnes, father of
Robert Burns, in 1765 until 1777 when they moved to Lochlie farm, Tarbolton.
My Murdochs were tenants of Mount Oliphant in the early 1800s.

It was quite normal for the Parish Reg. to state the date of the Banns and to
say the couple were married afterwards, sometimes not giving the date of the
actual ceremony.

When we last exchanged re John Cameron/ Margaret Murdoch I said that he was a
joiner to the Marquis of Bute, Dumfries perhaps this should have read Dumfries
House Cumnock??

Best wishes
Ian UK
