My sister lived in Birmingham, MI. I live in Birmingham, AL. She has 4
kids. I have none. One year my grandmother in NJ, who was getting on in
years and becoming sweetly forgetful, sent me a Christmas card, but none
to my sister. The envelope address was my sister's name and state, my
street and zip. Somehow the card found me in a marvel of postal
engineering. A little note inside said, "Dear Bonnie, How are your
children?"

That's one way to simplify your family tree. Mail merge.
