Hallo to the list,

I'm new to the list and I don't have a lot to go on but it would appear that
THE FATHER of my illigitimate grandfather Henry "MORRIS BROWNE" Hook could be
a man called MORRIS BROWN. The name Brown would most probably have been
anglicised from the Austrian equivilant. He is shown on the 1881 Census
return for London as MORRIS BROWN occupation TAILOR. AGE 30 unmarried,
country of birth AUSTRIA. At the time of the return he was living in the
Whitechapel area where he rented accommodation from a family called COHEN. My
grandfathers mother was a seamstress called MARIA HOOK and she is also shown
on the 1881 Census return living about 800 meters from Whitechapel. The area
is well known in the east of London " Rag Trade " and it's possible they met
through their work.

So the BIG question -- is there anyone in Austria researching the name Brown
or Brun etc who might have a lead on a Morris Brown born in Austria about
1851 and who went to London possibly after he was 20 years old. Any help will
be much appreciated.
