First time inquiry. My family immigrated to US from the village of Amblar in what is now northern Italy, (sud Tirol) South-West of Bolzano. Immigration took place late 1800's and early 1900's. Grandfather was Fedele Vigilio Asson. I have some of the family tree leading to Fedele. Am interested to learn origin of name. It does not appear to be Italian. Can it be Austrian or French? Have traces back to 1600 right there in Amblar.
