Hi again everyone,

Went to the local fete yesterday and bought a bag of books for $1.00.
One of them was the 3rd edition of the Melways Street Directory costing
originally $2.97. Funny as it sounds there is no year obvious as to when
it was published so my estimation is 1971-1973. I could ring Melways if
I really wanted to now but I think my guess is pretty accurate.

Well I spent hours poring over it yesterday afternoon in amazement. The
number of State Primary Schools listed is amazing even Migrant Hostels
and Drive In theatres get a mention (well and aren't they things of the
past!) and as for Narre Warren, Wantirna and Scoresby - they were
essentially just names on a map. There's even a Proposed Healesville
Freeway. And the Westgate Bridge is listed as "Proposed new bridge,
1000ft. span 170ft clearance".

Starting in the South East, the areas covered are as far south as
Moorooduc, as far east as Olinda, as far north as Epping and as far west
as Deer Park. There are are also maps of Werribee, Sunbury and
Craigieburn.
