Anyone interested in the Lake Wellington islands: Dawson's report was
published in the Gippsland Times 17 Dec 1870, a brief report appeared in the
Gippsland Tmes 13 December 1870.
The cause of the islands was erosion following floods. Erosion also the
resulted in the loss of islands. In the Gippsland Times 10 December 1980 it
was reported that two islands in Lake Reeve, just west of Rotamah Island
fell apart and disappeared. The first was in 1928, the other was solid
enough to run a few sheep and went in the early 1960s. I would be interested
to hear of any other islands in the Gippsland Lakes that have similarly
disappeared.
