Hi All,

Let's not get too hypo over the copyright issue, nor "swearing" Most
Aussies wouldn't call "bloody" swearing. But restraint is always respected.

Copyright. Well I spent some time with the copyright council on this
matter. All was by phone, so no letters to back it up. The summary I got
was that facts such as BDMs that are PUBLICLY available are not subject to
copyright, but copying whole family trees from somewhere could invoke some
copyright challenge, but unlikely. The issue most likely to be held up by a
judge is unauthorized use of photos, stories, etc. But in my personal
opinion, even that would be against the normal desire to share genealogy
info as this list is set to do.

My recommendation is for us all to try to keep the lawyers out of this
hobby.

Regards to a great genealogy list

Subject: [AUS-SAGEN] Re: Copyright

Hi All

This is very interesting to read all the comments from everyone on
copyright. The original question was about the "LIEBICH Family and their
arrival on the vessel LA ROCHELLE.
Here I was quiet excited thinking I had found someone with similar interest
to my self and I sent a few paragraphs about the LA ROCHELLE as well as
what line I was researching.

I didn't realise I could cause such a fracas

All I was trying to do was show Edna we may have had a similar line of
research.

Cheers to all
