Hi Glen,
One other source would be the SA Directories - similar to todays Phone
books. They were produced each year and listed all streets and names of
residents.
Most did nothave numbers, like today. but you can work out where and
which side of the street they lived from these books. A lot were
produced by Sands and McDougall. State Library, National Archives,
SAGHS, some libraries, some local history groups have if not all, some
of these books.
Happy hunting,
Ros

>(1)My ancestors James and Rachel Fox lived in Young Street, in Adelaide (Townacre 242) from 1855 to 1884. I have spoken to the Adelaide City Council as well as the Mortlock library in the hope of getting a photo of the houses in this street to no avail - are their any other sources.
>(2)James was a blacksmith and had a premises in Waymouth street in 1864 (townacre 175) - would love a picture from this year of the street. He apparantly worked at the stable in the Southern Cross Hotel in King William Street - is their any way of verifying this?
>(3)I have several ancestors where even after marriage they seem to have lived at home with the parents - was this common - also how do I get information on them - ie were their tax returns or other data collected on households in adelaide during the late 1800's so I can find out where they worked.
>(4)I am having difficulty tracing the history of spouses of Family members - hoping to get pictures by locating descendants - however the only starting point is a persons name and records on the CD's of BDMs that go to early 1900's - how do you go forward in time?
