Hello Ros

This is from "A Colonial Experience 1838-1910" - Geoffrey H Manning

"The Norwood Cycling Club
In 1883 a meeting was held at the home of Mr R.K. Threlfall at Norwood where
a decision was taken to from a cycling club. At that time the South
Australian and North Adelaide clubs existed and it was not long after the
formation of the Norwood Club that the Aerial Club saw the light of day.
These four clubs supplied the sport of the colony for several years, with
Norwood being represented particularly by Messrs Holloway, Tregonning,
Mills, Mullins and Davis.
Its opening ceremony was performed on the Kensington Oval on 2 February 1882
when members were resplendent in their uniforms, comprising a dark blue coat
with breeches and stockings to match, together with a cap embossed with NBC
in white letters on the front; the office holders had the additional regalia
of gold stripes and gilt buttons. ......"

If you go to the Mortlock library site
(http://www.catalog.slsa.sa.gov.au:1084/screens/opacmenu.html) and put in
"Norwood Cycling club" you will get a couple of very fetching photographs of
early members. One of the pictures was apparently supplied by W.H.N. Steed,
one of Trevor's rellies - he naturally is not in the picture (neither Trevor
who also looks fetching in his cycling gear nor Mr Steed).

Kind regards
Jill
Strathalbyn
