Hi Roger and list, I've been away in NZ hence the late reply. VERY interested to see this posting as my Doig ancestors were the blacksmiths in Beltana for many years. Anna Moir the daughter is actually a DOIG, and died in Kooringa, though no headstone there. Anna the mum was married to Peter DOIG. She was a midwife, Sunday School teacher, unofficial nurse and doctor in the community. She and husband came to SA in 1855 from Scotland and lived at first in Salisbury then Tothill, Waterloo, Kooringa, Blinman, Sliding Rock, then Beltana. Anna's headstone is the largest in the Beltana Cemetery and also the most bizarre as it has an arched gate with a cast hand holding a bible. This was the hand of her teacher son Peter, who taught for most of his life in SA schools.

The Beltana Doigs married into the Hantke and Buttfield families, all moving away in the late 1890s. if anyone has an interest in these names I'm only too happy to share any info I have on them.
