Subject: [AUS-SAGEN] law of kidnap 1851

Hello list
I am hoping someone may be able to help me with the meaning of "kidnap" used
twice in the following passage from my ancestor's journal of his voyage to
SA in 1850/51.
His wife is dying and does in fact die 4 weeks short of Adelaide. Prior to
her death her husband records the following:
"During her illness she prayed much for her children, and almost at the last
beg that the law of kidnap might be used with them. She had during her
affliction become much attached to Mariah on account of her kidnap to both
herself and the children. The last week of her life she slept of the most
part, although often when she appeared to sleep she would have her hands
clasped, and it was to discover she was engaged in prayer."
