Corporation and District Council of Port Wakefield (66)
William UNDERWOOD
Born at King's Belt, South Australia, in 1858, and is the eldest son of the
late Mr M.H. UNDERWOOD, who came to Australia from Norfolk, England, in
1855. Mr William Underwood has been a resident of Port Wakefield for 46
years, during which time he has taken an active part in many local public
affairs. For six years he represented Goyder Ward as Councillor; is a
member of the Balaklava Farmers' and Liberal Unions, and of the local branch
of the Agricultural Society. Mr Underwood has been associated with the
Rechabite Lodge for over 40 years.

Percy Hosea Harvey UNDERWOOD
Born at Nantawarra, South Australia, in the year 1887, Mr P.H.H. Underwood
has during his residence at Port Wakefield held responsible positions in
various local organisations. He was Councillor for Goyder Ward for two
years, and is ex-Secretary of the Balaklava branch of the Temperance
Alliance, and of the local Peace Loan Committee. Mr Underwood is a member
of the Liberal and Farmers' Unions, and for a number of years has been
associated with the various Methodist Church matters. He is Secretary and
Treasurer of the Henley Beach Methodist Church, and for nine years has been
a Lay Preacher.

District Council of Snowtown (65)
Joseph TURNER J.P.
Born at Gawler, South Australia, and upon leaving school entered the
warehouse of Messrs G. Willcox & Co for nine years. He opened a business of
his own in Gawler in 1875, with a branch at Snowtown three years later. In
1880 he disposed of his Gawler business and took up his residence at
Snowtown, as trade at the latter has so much increased. He has also engaged
in farming a[t] "Rayville Park," an estate close to the township. He was
one of the Government nominees at the formation of the District Council of
Snowtown, and has represented Town Ward continuously up to 1920, being the
first Chairman elected. He is a Trustee of the Institute and of the
Agricultural Society, and has been a member of the Barunga Masonic Lodge for
25 years.
