Hi my name is Stuart Clark. I live in Largs Bay SA. I am researching the
CLARK family of the Yorke Peninsula.
I have just really started and have gone back 5 generations.
My father is Colin Rys Clark born 1941 Kadina,
his father was Leslie Clark born 1912 married Barbara Evelyn Dallen 1932,
his father was Richard Dormer Clark born 4 April 1882, married Myrtle Daisy
Eaton 1904, he died 1923,
his father was Wilson John Clark (senior). Wilson John Clark aged 24 married
Ellen Preston aged 20 in 1864 at the Trinity Church Adelaide.
That puts Wilson John's birth date at roughly 1840. whether he was born in
Australia I dont know. The marriage entry in the BDM records for Wilson and
Ellen lists Wilson John's father as H G James Clark, and Ellen's father a
Maurice Preston.
Wilson John Clark (senior) had a son Wilson John Clark (junior) born 1886.
I have most of the Wilson John senior / Ellen Preston children including
Wilson John junior.
I have the children of Wilson John junior (who married Elizabeth Jane Hore
1891)
I have the children of Richard Dormer and Myrtle Daisy.
I am NOW trying to find a birth/death/arrival in Australia of Wilson John
Clark senior (born approx 1840 in Australia ?). He probably died in the
Kadina, Moonta, Wallaroo mines. His children including Wilson John junior
were born in Red Banks Port Gawler, Dalkey, Kadina and WalIaroo mines areas.
I have not found his death in the up to 1915 records.
I am also NOW trying to find an arrival/death of H G James Clark in
Australia. I have a couple of James Clark deaths but no HG James. From rough
calculations I would guess for HG James to have a son born in 1840 he would
be about 25 years so that would put his birth roughly at 1815.
I have found a James Clark arrived 2 May 1838 on the ship Canton in Port
Adelaide and married an Emily McManus 25 June 1838. James was from
Loughsaalt Ayrshire Scotland and Emily was from Dublin Ireland. Not sure if
this is HG James Clark. They had children James who died aged 7 in 1846. No
records of a son of James and Emily called Wilson.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Stuart Clark
