Hi Will,

Most of my information on Berry LANGFORD came from Sketches About
Langfords, Book II by George Shealy Langford. I was told the Berry
LANGFORD household in the 1830 U.S. census of St. Clair County, AL
consisted of 3 boys under the age of 5, and 1 man in the 50-60 age range
[Berry?], 3 girls in the 5-10 age range, 1 girl in the 10-15 age range,
1 woman in the 30-40 age range [Elizabeth?] and 1 woman in the 70-80 age
range [?].

In the War of 1812, Champion "Champ" LANGFORD was in the Seventh
Regiment, Haywood County, Capt John McClure's Company, North Carolina
Milita. Champ and Elizabeth were married in Haywood Co., NC on 16 Nov
1812 and were in AL before the end of the year. Their first child,
Mallinda, was born 30 Apr 1813 (according to the family bible).

But I wonder about the 1850-60-70 U.S. censuses saying Malinda was born
in SC. Elizabeth's family was in NC. I've never identified Champ's
parents. I wonder if Champ and Elizabeth went to SC to Champ's parents
for the birth of their first child, Malinda.

The 1820 U.S. census of the Champ LANGFORD household in St. Clair Co.,
AL has 2 females over 21. One has to be Elizabeth, Champ's wife, and I
speculate that the other may have been Champ's mother or sister.
(Elizabeth's mother was deceased and I don't know of her having any
sisters.)

The 1830 U.S. census of the Champ LANGFORD household in St. Clair Co.,
AL has a male in the 70-80 age range. (Robert REED, Elizabeth's father,
was living with them and drawing a pension for his service in the
Revolutionary War.) And there are 2 females in the 30-40 age range.
One has to be Elizabeth, Champ's wife. But I haven't identified the
other female.

Champ LANGFORD sold 160 acres of land in Missouri to Berry LANGFORD.
The deed was recorded in St. Clair County, AL in 1829. I've been told
Champ also sold land in Illinois to Berry.

Champ LANGFORD died 5 Oct 1833, Robert REED died 16 Jan 1842 and
Elizabeth LANGFORD died 24 Jan 1854. I believe they all died in St.
Clair Co., AL but I've never found their graves.

Champ and Elizabeth had 7 children -- 6 girls and 1 boy (born 52 days
after his father died). The children were:
Malinda (born 30 Apr 1813) maried Joseph Henry MEANS
Nancy Avaline (born 11 Nov 1815) married Thomas J. BRADFORD, George
W. SELLERS
Mary Caroline (born about 1820)
Sally Elizabeth (born 31 Jul 1822)
Terressa (born 9 Nov 1825)
Elizabeth Jane (born 19 Apr 1828, died 20 Oct 1913) married Robert M.
JONES
Champ (born 26 Nov 1833, died after 1906) married Elizabeth Jane
HAGOOD in Jefferson Co., AL on 7 Feb 1854 (2 weeks after his mother
died). Champ Jr. is buried in the McDaniel Cemetery, Jonesboro,
Craighead County, AR

(NOTE: Mary Caroline was named in her father's will but not in the
family bible.)
