Kathleen, here's a POSSIBILITY

ref: 1880 Census, Clear Creek Township, Sevier County AR, ED-269, Pg-17/63,
12 Jun 1880:
153/158 - Line 30
Musgrave, Dickson wm24 Engineer Stxx M
AR/MS/AL
, America wf19 wife Keeping house
AR/AL/GA
, Walter wm1/12(May) son
AR/AR/AR
Note: The "May" above was written on the census as Walter's birth month.
I have no proof that this America Musgrave is the same as America
A. Pettis (or Pettus) but she seems to be the only "America" living in
Sevier during this 1880 census with a birth date close enough to be her.
The other two "America's" listed in Sevier county in 1880 were
America Helmes (born about 1847) and America E. Overturf? (born about 1979).

This info might at least give you a place to look.
