Subject: research
Hi,
I am going to Arkansas to research my Thorn family. My family was in
Arkansas from about 1820 something until about 1845 or so.
I know that Colonel Thorn was in the Arkansas Militia. I know that he
had a brother who lived in Hot Springs. I know his father died in
Arkansas.
The question is.... Can anyone give me any research tips, hints, or
suggestions. This is my first research trip so I am a little green.
Thanks for your time,
Chriss

Hi Chriss,
I hope some of these links I have gathered up for you will help.

This one usually includes a free state map & other items to be sent by
snail mail.

><>Free Vacation Kit:
Arkansas Parks & Tourism
http://www.arkansas.com/vacation_kit/default.asp

This one should include a city map:

><>Little Rock, Arkansas: City Unlimited - hotels, attractions, history,
info

http://www.littlerock.com/

This one has a link to the AR History Commisssion which is a must visit
site.
It is is in the State Capitol in Little Rock. Russell Baker & the staff
there are very helpful. There are loads of AR records there.

high:

The Butler Center at the downtown library has a wealth of AR history &
the staff will be very helpful as well. They are open later in the
evenings Mon-Thurs...till 8 pm.
I usually go to the AR History Commission from 9 am to 3 pm...there is a
place for lunch inside the capital...then I go to the Butler Center at 3
pm to avoid the traffic!! They are not that far from one another.

Garland Co & Hot Springs Links....
Since Garland Co. was formed from Montgomery, Saline & Hot Springs
Counties...you may want to visit those counties too..Where are you
driving from?

But I would get all I could get at the Butler Ctr. & the AHC before I
did all that driving....although...you would go thru Benton, AR, the
county seat of Saline on your way to Hot Springs from LR....if you are
driving East to West...?

><>Garland County Library

Hot Springs AR 71901

I hope this one would have a map of the city-
><>Hot Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau Hot Springs, Arkansas

http://www.hotsprings.org/visitor_info/contact_info/

Let me know if there is anything else I can do, I sincerely hope you
enjoy your trip & find your AR ancestors.

Good Luck!
