Hi,
I am looking for any Fortenberry descendants who may live in Arkansas.
Jacob Fortenberry was born in about 1809-1810 in Lancaster Co, S.C. and
moved to Lawrence Co., Miss and met Elizabeth Earlene Hix there and married
her and they had several children there. At some point the family began to
move westward or at least the children did. Their children were:
1. Rebecca Fortenberry born abt. 1835 or so and married William Butler.
Their oldest child, Sammy was born in Louisana somewhere in abt. 1849 then
they moved on to Nacogdoches, Texas where the rest of their children were
born.
2. Cecila Ann Fortenberry born Sept. 3, 1838 in Miss. and 1st married Harvey
B. Miller and had two or three children with him and he either died or was
killed because by Jan. of 1867, Cecila Ann had her first child with husband,
Redden H. Johnson. These are my GG Grandparents.
3. Mary Jane Fortenberry was born abt. 1840 in Miss. and married William T.
Mann and they had three children but William T.Mann was killed in Des Ark,
Arkansas in the Civil War in Nov. of 1862 and in Dec. 1862, their last child
was born. William is said to be buried in an unmarked grave in Arkansas near
where he was killed.
4. Thomas Euell Fortenberry born abt. 1842 in Miss. and married Emma Lee
Herron.
5. James A. Fortenberry born in early 1850's and married a Kituria ?
6. William R. Fortenberry born in early 1850's. Don't know anything about
him.
7. Martha Fortenberry born on Dec. 24, 1834 in Miss. She married a J.T.
Holden. Their first two children were born in Louisana [don't know where in
Louisana] and the rest of their chilren were all born in Arkansas but don't
know where in Arkansas. Martha eventually wound up in Milam County, Texas. I
have not seen her in any records with the other children. I know she is
their sister because my grandmother and her siblings all told me about her.
I am looking for descendants of Martha Fortenberry Holden .
Her children were:
1. Mattie Holden born Jan. 1855 in Louisana and married a Griffin.
2. William Holden born in abt. 1854 or so in Louisana.
3. James T. Holden born in 1858 or 1860 in Arkansas.
4. Susan J. Holden born probably June 1, 1861 in Arkansas and may have died
on Oct. 8, 1880 in Milam co.Texas.
5. John T. Holden born maybe Aug. 2, 1863 or in 1865 in Arkansas and may
have died on Sept. 9, 1896 in Milam County, Texas.
6. Callie D. Holden born March 1866 in Arkansas and married George W. Odom,
I think.
Can anyone help me with this Holden family who lived in Arkansas for
quite a few years and left for Texas. I don't know if her husband died in
Arkansas or Texas or somewhere else.
