April,
I am sure you have found the birth record for Nadine Elizabeth. And I have
learned something about how to search in the Texas Birth Index. No amount
of searching with John Garner in the father's name field would have resulted
in this find. Thank you. This birth record is consistent with the family
stories and also with the SSDI record I had found for Nadine Fruit.
From the 1930 census Nadine was probably born Dorothy N(adine) and when she
was adopted her family may have changed her name. I just found out from my
niece that Nadine was the oldest of perhaps five children. There was also
an Ione who must have been born just after the 1930 census.
From the 1910 census below, I had found the Mertle Nix and filed it away for
future reference. I makes sense that Myrtle was from Red River County and
they met and married there and had a couple of kids there.
Thanks again and to everyone else who responded.
Dotty
