Sorry you feel pressed for time. While you are near Clark County, you might
want to consider spending a few hours at the Ouachita Baptist Library in
Arkadelphia. That is where the Clark County Historical Society keeps most of
it's genealogical records. While there, you can quickly scan the 1870, 1860,
1900 US Census records, as well as some possible local census records in
other relevant years. Your people would be age 90 by 1920, so I'm not
surprised that you don't find them in that census. There are many other
resources at the OBU Library Special Collections for you to look over while
you are there. Back at home, you should also check (in addition to
Rootsweb), the following for Internet queries and genealogical records: FHL
Surname Catalog, FHL Ancestral File, FTM GenForum, Ancestral File
@Ancestry.com, USGenweb Project, Genealogies of the Library of Congress,
just to name a few. Once you have documented several entries for you family,
and have nailed down locations, then move on to land records, court records,
tax records, probate/wills, church records, military records, birth and
death records, SSDI, newspapers, etc.etc. If you live near a good
genealogical research library, that would also be a good resource.
