Dear Historic Preservationists:

This message is to update you on the status of HB2263, a bill that would
help keep our endangered cemeteries from desecration. We have come a long
way, but we still need support. Last Friday, Pat Perona and I went to Little
Rock and did a presentation for the committee on our bill. We managed to get
through committee. The vote for the full house was held on Monday and as our
representative put it, we squeaked by. Now our bill is in the Senate
Committee of City, County and Local Affairs. The meeting is in the morning
(Thursday). I apologize for the late notice, as it has been rather hectic
and at times I am not sure exactly where we will go from here. Please email
the City, County and Local Affairs Committee for the Senate NOW, even if
they have already voted. If it does not get out of committee tomorrow, we
have one last shot on Tuesday, and then our time will run out because of the
end of the session. If it does not pass tomorrow, then I will be going to
Little Rock again o!
n Tuesday for the last ditch effort. If anyone can go, please do. It is very
important to be represented well and to put pressure on the Senators. Below
I have listed the Senators on the City, County and Local Affairs Committee:

City, County & Local Affairs: Senate
Chairman: Irma Hunter Brown (no email)
Vice Chair: Sue Madison
Dave Bisbee (no email)
Kim Hendren
Shawn Womack
Tracy Steele
Mary Anne Salmon

your mouse and choose copy, then you can open a new message and paste it
into it for ease of emailing quickly).

At this link, you can check the status of our bill:
http://www.arkleg.state.ar.us/2003/scripts/ablr/bills/bills.asp

At this link, you can look at the actual bill:
http://www.arkleg.state.ar.us/ftproot/bills/2003/public/HB2263.pdf (it is a
slow link, wait a couple minutes)

As soon it is through the committee (keep your fingers crossed), then it
will go to the full Senate for a vote. At this time, it is important to
contact your LOCAL legislators, and tell them that you want them to vote for
it. If they have email, send them an email. You can find out their address
by going to: http://www.arkleg.state.ar.us, and then at the top click on the
Senator link, and they are in alphabetical order. Many have email, but if
they don't (or even if they do), call them and leave a message
(501)682-2902.

Please do not give up on this now. We have so much to gain from this for
cemetery preservation. Keep contacting your legislators and we will prevail!
