My great grandfather, ELWOOD GRAFF, managed/owned sawmills all over the north east corner of Texas and moved into Arkansas at some unknown date after 1880. Word of mouth has it that he drowned in the Red River near Index Bridge. Threr are three stories concerning his drowning. #1 he was on a picnic and drowned swimming. #2 he and a helper were in a boat trying to break up a log jam during a rain storm near the Index Bridge. Grandfather fell out of the boat. #3 There was a bad storm and flood waters washed down his hog pens, and he was trying to keep his prize pigs from drowning and ended up drowning himself near little creek crossing. Whatever way he drowned, his body was not recovered. They say it happened in 1892. I looked through files at the Ashdown court house but found nothing. Some of his sons were working with him. Some of the family still lives around Texarkana. Would anyone have any info on Elwood Graff?

Thanks, Mary Lou
