Chriss,
From what you have furnished, your THORN/THORNE should be listed in the
U.S.Censuses for 1830 and 1840.
In 1830 you want the census for Territory of Arkansas.
Arkansas became a state in 1836, so in 1840 you want the census for the
State of Arkansas.
These censuses are available for free use in the reading room of the
nearest Branch Family History Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints (Mormon). If the Mormon library does not have it, they
will order the film you need for the cost of postage.
You likely can also obtain these by InterLibrary Loan from your nearest
public library. They can allow you to keep them for two weeks and may
have to charge you postage.
Either way, you should be able to uncover this information with relative ease.

In 1830s
1835 Oct 27 Thorn, John Crittenden Magistrate
Crittenden is the county across the Mississippi from Memphis.

The following was transcribed from the U.S. Government publication,
"Territorial Papers - Arkansas 1819-1825" pages 789-874, Part Seven,
"Executive Register for the Arkansas Territory, 1819-1836".

There are many errors in spelling that I noticed as I was transcribing,
except in the most extreme cases, I saved the spelling printed in the
book as best I could, keeping in mind that the original transcription
was from handwritten documents. If at first, you don't find who you are
looking for, use the phonetic method so familiar to genealogists.

This section contains the Surnames starting with S thru Z.
