For the benefit of any African Americans on this list, it might be good to
mention that the History Commission has several newspapers on film that
were published and edited by the black race. For example, in my home county
of Bradley, no one seemed to know of such a paper, not even the long time
editor of the present publication, but I found a long article in the Gazette
describing the "South Arkansas Pilot" that was published/edited in Bradley
Co. This was in 1886. Not long ago I looked at the microfilm of the "Baxter
Vidette" that was published in Drew Co., Ark. A remarkable paper, well
edited...more so than the "white" publications. I was very impressed.
