I have found a John Cox (see below), that may be my GGGrandfather. Is there
any way that I can verify this? Thanks, Janet



24th ARKANSAS INFANTRY REGIMENT

Col Edward E. Portlock, cmdg.

Organized At Camp White Sulphur Springs/Camp Shaver's in Aug 1862 from
conscripts , independent companies, and recruits from the Dawson's 19th
Arkansas in Regiment. It was assigned with The 19th Arkansas and Crawford's
Battalion into a Brigade with Col Charles Dawson in Command. Left Sept.
28th, 1862 with this brigade when that brigade was assigned to the defense
of Arkansas Post.

While At Camp Shaver's the 24th Arkansas suffered the heaviest known number
of casualties due to disease, losing 1 out of every 10 men.
