Subject: [APG] Soda vs Pop

When I was growing up in the 40's in Wisconsin and Minnesota, it was always pop. When I moved out east I quickly shifted to soda. My sister who was here last week from Minnesota still calls it pop.
One of my first jobs was as a counselor at a camp in Hopewell, NJ. When I started, all the other counselors would go into town for a carvel. I had no money, so I never joined them. However, I noticed that they never came back to camp with anything and I had no idea what they were buying. When I finally got some money and joined them I discovered that a Carvel store sold soft ice cream.
In New York for the first time I often ate at the Chock full O Nuts. I'd order a cream cheese sandwich on raisin bread and coffee. The first time she asked regular and I said yes. I discovered that it definitely had cream in it (and maybe sugar). In our family we definitely drank it black. Although when I was young my grandfather, who always poured his black coffee into a saucer and cooled it off that way, would let us kids if we were good, soak a sugar lump in his coffee and eat that.
By the way, Elissa, It's 77 degrees and perfectly clear.
