You might want to try the International Portal for France, which links to all the major French repositories:
http://www.loc.gov/rr/international/european/france/resources/fr-libraries.html
You can have most pages in foreign languages translated into English by right-clicking on the page. Go to *page info*. And then hit, *translate this page into English*.
On some sites, this will automatically translate all pages on the site into English. On other sites, you will have to right-click on each page to get the translation, which can be very slow-going. The German archives work great, but I havent used the French as much.
