Jim Smith,
Per your request regarding French research on line, particularly in
Bordeaux. Bordeaux is in the department of Gironde, the archives of which
has been in the process of digitizing état civil records since last summer
and making them available on line. If you go to the Archives website you can
read about it. There is a statement that several persons have not been able
to access the data base. I am one of those, inspite of installing Java per
their instructions. You might have better luck, so try it. I think the
problem might be that the program is only Vista compatible, but I'm not
sure. If you wish to contact me off the list I will give you many other
options to pursue. France has exploded these last few years with online
information. Suzanne Prosnier, CG specialist in French research.
