Hi Jim,

Based on your definition of the "Bordeaux" region, I'm assuming that you
are looking for records in the department of Gironde (if not, then let me
know which department you're searching in). If so, you're in luck. They
just put a big collection of their civil and parish records online last
week! They've also had many of their table decennales (10 year indexes)
online since last year.

Many French departments have their civil records online, as well as some
parish and census records. Most, however, are only found in French. I've
found Google Web page translation to be helpful in uncovering the basic
information found on such Web pages, and the French word list at
FamilySearch is very helpful as well in identifying the major points in a
French document.

As Randy mentioned, the latest issue of Internet Genealogy has a nice list
of general resources for researching French ancestors. Geneanet.org is one
of my favorites.

If you have any specific questions, I would be happy to help off list. I
have a decent amount of experience with French genealogy research.
