One of the problems with publishing books using a spreadsheet format is that
the cost book production is greater because of all the white space.
Publishers really dislike white space. We also dislike 8.5x11 books full of
white space because for some unknown reason customers find more value in a
book that is thick rather than one that is big. So a 5.5x8.5 book with the
same information will sell better than the larger size. I recommed 8.5x11
books only when there are maps and group photos where the detail would be
lost in a smaller format.
The easiest way to solve the problem is to concantinate the data (I like
that word). That means if you take a row of data:
Jones Sally F 35 Florida
in the table you convert it to text with some separator:
Jones, Sally, F, 35, Florida
and provide a very good introduction and key in the front. Using this format
the size of the book is reduced, the page count is reduced, the retail price
of the book is reduced.
