I replied directly to the person who posted that but I don't think I
sent my reply to the List.
I have had dimly written pencil copies in the past from old letters and
ledgers and the only way I found them to be made more readable was to
take the original to a copy such as Staples, Kinkos, or Office Max and
ask the copy shop to reproduce them on the copy machine used to
reproduce photographs. I have found this process does a good job of
enhancing dimly written letters. I can only say that watching this
process you will see how many times the scan process goes over the
scanned item before it finally gives forth with a copy. Also doing it
this way does a great job of giving you a permanent copy so you can put
away the original and prevent handling more than necessary.
