Recently I was asked by a member of APG about an individual selling
their business and what should be done with files or client lists. This
is my response to her.

The investigators personal papers would or should be donated to a good
repository but files containing investigated data and material should
not be donated unless it might be materials which would otherwise be in
the public domain. I have so many old files that I will probably some
day destroy most of them. Recently I went through some of my older
files and began returning them to the client and telling them that I was
purging my files and this portion which belonged in my office I was
returning to them. Only one person said they did not want it and that I
should just destroy it. Does that pretty much get the answer you were
asking?
