Regarding refurbished equipment, I have saved boatloads of $$$ by buying a
refurb InFocus projector in 2000 and a refurb Dell Dimension desktop PC
twice (the latest being in 2003). In all three cases, the sellers were
reputable dealers (Dell, for one) and the warranty was exactly the same as
for a new item. Most of the time, these items were returns that were made by
customers and then the company completely refurbished the machine to make it
like new, even offering the same-as-new warranty. The bulb in the projector
was brand-new.
My InFocus projector is still going strong at age four. I began to worry
about the bulb earlier this year, so I just installed the new one I had
purchased "just in case" and I keep the old one as a backup. Careful
comparison shopping on the Internet finds the best price for a bulb that can
be shipped within a couple days, just as it provides the best price for a
projector. Just be sure to check customer ratings and comments for companies
about which you know nothing.
I am completely happy with all three of my refurb purchases and figure I've
saved about $1500-$2000 by doing this. None of them has given me a lick of
trouble.
