I may be way behind the curve on this, but I just discovered a site I've not
seen discussed on this list: www.epodunk.com. I was looking for the
location of a particular rural (very rural!) "family cemetery" that I knew
only by name and county. At this website, in 3 clicks, I had the GPS
coordinates of the cemetery and in 4 clicks I had a MapQuest map marking the
exact spot (or a topo map, whichever I preferred). It was much faster than a
search at the GNIS site, and it gave me a topo map twice the size of the
teenie-weenie one we get through GNIS.

There's much more offered there that I've not yet had time to explore.
