Debbie, you may have already received replies - thought I'd 'reply all'
in case anyone else was interested. Houston Public Library's showcase,
Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research, may be found at
http://www.hpl.lib.tx.us/clayton/
Once there, click on Military Indexes - Service Records & Pension Files ...
then scroll down and click on Clayton Microprint Inventory - Military
Records ... and go from there.
While these are microprint, you'll find some guidelines for what is
available - hopefully in a library near you.
The other thing you might do is click on Houston Public Library Catalog
(or you can access the main HPL site at http://www.hpl.lib.tx.us/hpl/ (in
this instance you might want to see the side bar and click on Sources for
Research. You'll find a lot of varied areas to check out -
In any event, enter War of 1812 and you'll find 352 results ... as good
a bibliography as you'd want. Click on any or all of the titles to see more
details and make up a list of whatever suits your need.
Entering the subject War of 1812 in your search engine should bring up a
lot of great resources as well ...
Two excellent references that will lead you to even more resources is
"The Source, A Guidebook of American Genealogy" edited by Arlen Eakle &
Johni Cerny and James C. Neagles' "U.S. Military Records, A Guide to Federal
and State Sources Colonial America to the Present."
Good hunting!
