Enjoying this discussion but it is rather confusing. Original vs. derivative
shouldn't be that complicated.
When I visit courthouses, move several cabinets or climb on top of them to
get to the hidden estate papers: finally find the file and the original will
of the deceased, in his handwriting, then I have the original. Any other
presentations of this will are derivative. In my view, it is the same with
any other clerk's copy, they are all derivative, probably accurate but not
original.

On the other hand, an exact replica of the original image, unaltered; I
would classify as original.
