Hello Dan,

Portable LCDs can be used with a laptop (for portability) or with
(usually larger) conference room LCDs which can be placed on a cart or
ceiling/table mounted and used in conjunction with a laptop or a PC.
There are different types of projectors (and many different
manufacturers). You can see an explanation on LCD vs. DLP vs. LCOS at
<http://www.projectorcentral.com/lcd_dlp.htm>;.

The initial outlay for an LCD projector (depending on the type, size,
etc.) can be considerable, but the price is coming down. Bulbs will
burn out after so many hours (roughly 1,000) and can be costly - often
$300 plus. You should read up on the advantages/disadvantages of them
as well as the sizes available. Critically important is the brightness
of the projected image (measured in lumens). If you will be making
presentations in locations where you are unable to darken the room, you
want a projector with at least 1100 ANSI lumens. The higher the ANSI
lumens rating, the brighter the LCD projector's light output. This can
also be important if the room is a large conference room or auditorium
vs. a classroom. If this isn't a factor, don't spend the extra money
for one with 2,000 lumens.

Resolution varies considerably depending on the display, SVGA, XGA, etc.

There are lots of options, prices, etc. You'll need to check into them
and price them. I found a considerable difference between local vendors
and online vendors. If you put "LCD projectors" in Google or a similar
search engine, you'll find lots of info. Also try SVGA, XGA, lumsens,
etc. for explanations on how to buy, etc.

Good luck.
