Does anyone know of a reason a man who was born in Wales and
immigrated to the U.S. in 1861 to work in mines might have said he
was from England? (Besides the obvious that he might have lived in
England as a young adult.) I just wondered if it was a convention,
given they were both under the same government. (But it seems to me
pride would make a Welshman say "Wales" anyway; or is that a 20th
century thing?)

Thanks.
Carolyn
