Subject: Chart Symbology

Hello,
I am generating a descendant chart for a family reunion. Is there a guide
to how non-bloodline relationships are shown. I realize, strictly speaking,
descendants are descendants and therefore all should be bloodline. But this
is a family where we welcome everyone in and tell them, "ha, ha you're one
of us now. You can't escape." And I want to continue that practice onto my
chart. But, that said, I still want to differentiate direct lines. So I
need symbology for step-relations, adoptions, etc.
Anyway, is there a standard and where would I find it?
Thanks for your help,
Laurie Williams
Confused but still trying amateur
