Canadian Border Crossing Records [St Albans District, 1895-1954] cover the
entire Canadian/U.S. border. There are many microfilmed "index" cards that
are the only exisiting information and do not have corresponding manuscript
copies.
Not all crossings were recorded, or if recorded, the record no longer exists
and has never been microfilmed. There are several additional indexes [not
included in the St. Albans district records] of border crossings. Ask at
your nearest National Archives branch for a list of all indexes.
I would encourage anyone, who has not located their immigrant ancestor's
passenger list, to look at these records. Not only do they contain first
time immigrants, but also immigrants who may have crossed the border
previously; returning US citizens, etc.
