Dear Kevin and all,
I don't know that there's anything written that describes the
differences between these styles in detail. But the examples in the
appendix of the BCG Standards Manual illustrate the differences between
the NEHG Register and NGSQ. TAG is probably closer to the Register, but
there are a number of little differences -- e.g., David Greene took all
my nice little brackets off my footnote references the other day. :-)
Probably the best way to distinguish them is to get samples from each
and compare.
But don't rely on what genealogy database programs produce as samples of
Register v. NGSQ style. They mostly miss the boat! The styles of these
journals are much more than a numbering system.
