The worst nightmare I've heard - visiting the cemetery and trying to find
family plots where the markers have faded away to illegible, one of my clients
went to the sexton's office and inquired. The sexton, upon being informed of
the approximate dates, grimaced and led them to a map on the wall. On it were
numerous "x" marks, but no other notations. During the time period in question
(which spanned over 60 years), the cemetery had been managed by a man, then
his son, who were both ILLITERATE! They did not keep any useful records, but
simply marked off the plots used with an x!
